Ahmadiyya Muslim Jalsa Salana UK 2012 Pukaar News
Description
Jalsa Salana 2012 Package by Pukaar News. The annual Jalsa Salana, hosted by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association (AMA), was the 46th to be held in the UK and attended by over 28,000 people from 88 countries. 3,000 unpaid volunteers, young and old, men and women, helped with arrangements for traffic control, transport, car park, accommodation, hospitality, security and hygiene. Approximately 120,000 free meals were prepared over three days by over 100 volunteer chefs. The Khalifa (Supreme Head) of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, who spoke on all three days of the convention, said the event was a purely spiritual one, aimed at developing compassion and goodness amongst the participants. His Holiness went on to speak about some of the problems faced by the Islamic world today and how a lot of Muslims had forgotten the true and peaceful teachings of the Holy Qur'an: "It is only Allah who can grant the Muslim World wisdom -- and we should all pray for this." Being the UK annual convention, there was a union flag bunting feature in the central area, symbolising the UK community's loyalty to Britain. The Ahmadiyya Muslims received cross-party praise and support for their work, including a message of goodwill from the Prime Minister David Cameron. In a special personalised video message, the Deputy Prime Minister, Rt Hon Nick Clegg, congratulated the community on its vast amount of charity projects. The Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt, now Secretary of State for Health, said: "The growth of your convention reflects the progress made by your community over the years but what is impressive is how you have maintained a sense of unity and brotherhood throughout. You clearly are a community devoted to peace." Labour leader Rt Hon Ed Miliband thanked the Ahmadiyya community for its part in "showing the best of our country to the world" and Mayor of London Boris Johnson praised its efforts to promote community cohesion. Jalsa UK was one of the main talking points in countries like Germany, Canada and Pakistan this weekend as the topic '#JalsaUK' trended on Twitter in over four countries and received over 20,000 tweets from all across the world.
